Seal Skin Mittens

These are my new seal skin mittens! I do not believe there is a soul in the lower 48 that would appreciate these beautiful mittens like I do unless you came here to see what it took to make them. I bought them from a beautiful young lady from the village Shishmaref that made them herself...they are the warmest things I have ever had on my hands--seal skin is what most of the Eskimos wear here. Here is my lovely arm modeling them....I wanted to take a picture of me and "big green" wearing these beauties but Iran was not home to take my picture...so here I stand with me and the camera. The black fur is beaver--super soft and warm. I can not wait to try them out when it gets -30...I will tell you if my hands froze or not.

  1. Eskimo is not the politically correct term and can be quite offensive.

  2. Norma, I am sorry if the term "Eskimo" offended you...you must not live in Nome...because if you did you would know that is how the Alaskan Natives refer to themselves. As for I would NEVER use a term that would be offensive to my friends here!!!!!

  3. I live near Nome and I don't find "eskimo" is offensive. I'm an Alaskan Eskimo and most of the world knows us as eskimos. Love the mitts! I seen a pair here in Elim and it looks like someone's pattern I know from Shish!
