From Gambell, Alaska!

There is a little Eskimo lady named Beaulah Oittillian whom lives in Gambell, Alaska and is famous for her outstanding craftsmaship of Eskimo dolls! She has dolls in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C! Her dolls have sold for as much as $1000 each!! I was able to get my hands on one.....especially for Monica as a fund raiser for her and her daughter's medical mission trip to El Salvador coming up in about a month. The white ruff on the top of the hat is made from polar bear fur. The "jacket" is made from walrus intestine. The face, part of the drum/drum stick and hands are all walrus ivory, the eyes are made from whale baling...and I believe the drum head is made from walrus parts..maybe intestines. Bottom part of the clothes are made from seal skin....the shoes are made from sun bleached seal skin. The man is sitting on a walrus vertebrae.
It is so beautiful!
