Pilgrim Hot Springs!
These pictures were taken when my mother was here....took me so long to post them! This is Pilgrim Hot Springs, one of the very prettiest places near Nome.....it is about a 2 hr drive from Nome (on a VERY rough road that should only be driven by 4-wheeler)...NOTICE THE TREES!! It was originally built as an orphanage after the flu epidemic of 1918 hit that wiped out so many villages. IT IS IN THE MIDDLE OF ABSOLUTE NO WHERE....if someone did not absolutely know EXACTLY where they were going they would never find it. It is accessible by river from the village of Teller. Many people still go to the hot springs...was a little too warm for me. NOTICE all the foliage!! Looks like a different country...one would NEVER guess it is so close to Nome. OF course it is abandon now and no one lives here, but just soaking up all the green would put a smile on anyones face.
