The village of Shageluk...population 87

I had to make a rather "emergent" trip to the village of Shageluk. Had a great trip but the best thing of all it reminded me so much of Missouri. This little tiny village had some beautiful log cabins and were in the process of building more. It is a honey bucket village. They do pump water in for people to shower at the Washateria for 4 quarters you get two minutes of running water.
There are 15 students in school with one graduating senior this week and it was a HUGE event. The student's name was posted everywhere on posters congratulating her.
Have to share a funny story. The village store is pretty tiny...to my shock they stocked a box of BANANA MOON PIES! I should not have gone to the store hungry because for some reason those moon pies looked soooo good. I got them....hurried back to the clinic and busted the box open to dig in....upon opening one up and biting down...it was so old that it looked like saw dust went flying out of my mouth...and the marshmallow center tasted like a cross between Laffy Taffy and peanut brittle. Should have looked at the date on the box...would have been dead give away...but don't they look pristine in the wrapper? They were well preserved. :)
The land in the region is starting to turn green....YAY!!
